Description of Work:
Horizontal composition of an Asian ginger jar on a stand with top cap, tea bowl on stand, tall ceramic dragon tea kettle and dried flowers. In the right foreground of the painting is a white tall ceramic dragon tea kettle. The kettle has a dragon spickot and dragon back handle attached to a tall cylindrical tea kettle with lid. There are dried flowers to the right and left of the tea kettle. In the left foreground is a white porcelain Asian tea cup or bowl on stand with dried flowers on the ground at the left. In the background of the painting is a large dark ginger jar on stand with a cap lid. The background is a non-descript painted texture. [ECA from a black and white photograph]

– This work was most probably sold or won through the Grand Central Gallery, New York, NY in their annual lottery ca.1923.
– Carlsen uses the same item in another horizontal composition sold at the Grand Central Art Galleries. He seemed to have sold many horizontal composition through the GCAG and it may have been a requirement or possibly he was told to do so by them as he most often worked in vertical or square compositions for his still life during this period.
