…”There are several notably strong marine pictures by American artists. The beautiful painting Surf, by Emil Carlsen—which was in the Second Annual Exhibition of Selected Paintings by American Artists at the Albright Art Gallery—won the third Carnegie medal and a cash prize of $500. This work many persons last year thought should have been purchased from the permanent collection of the Buffalo Fine Arts Academy. Mr. Sellstedt wrote a letter advocating this.”…
