…”There are the shows of members’ works at the National Arts Club…Here was, truly, a highly respectable group; here were men long ago convinced and able now to leisurely pursue their art without fear of bothersome outside influence, to paint with eyes sleepily half shut, to repeat ideas they know by heart.  To repeat former success and to be acknowledged masters that is the luck of these men who we shall go to the very great trouble of naming:…Emil Carlsen….”
