Historical notes:

“Wife of Rhodes S. Baker, of Dallas, a leading young lawyer of that city and president of the Dallas 150,000 Club and identified in many general ways with the progress of the city, is a Mississippian by birth, a native of Montgomery county, born in 1874. His parents, A. J. and Elizabeth (Newsome) Baker, are now both residnts of San Angelo, Texas, whither they migrated from Mississippi in 1884. The father has been an active and prominent lawyer in that state, but although he has retired from practice since coming to Texas he has become prominent in public affairs, at one time holding the office of land commissioner of the state.

Rhodes S. Baker completed his education at the State University of Texas, graduating from its law department in 1896. In that year he located at Dallas, began practice and has since risen to the front ranks of his profession. Both individually and as a member of the firm of Spence and Baker he has advanced to a position where he is recognized as a leader in the trial and adjudication of civil law cases. There are few movements within the past decade which have advanced the position of Dallas as a city in which Mr. Baker has not been an active participant, and in 1908 his fellow workers in the 150,000 Club honored him by an election to its presidency. He is also vice president of the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Baker’s wife was formerly Miss Edna M. Rembert, to whom he was married in Dallas, and their two children are Dorothy and Winifred Baker.”
