ECA notes:
– The location depicted is Boston, MA.
– Stretcher uses butt joints that Carlsen is known for vs. mitre joint of contemporary stretchers.
– CONDITION REPORT: The canvas retains a wax reline; ultraviolet examination reveals a scattered fluorescence of minor inpainting, predominantly in the sky at upper left and in the tips of the tree leaves and branches at upper right; although certain pigments fluoresce, they appear to be the artist’s original intent; the surface of the work is clean and retains a layer of synthetic resin varnish; in overall stable and attractive condition.
