…”Mr. Carlsen has another picture in this gallery, in the center of the west wall, with the title, “Summer Clouds.” This is a marine view, with white-crested waves washing upon the beach, under a luminous blue sky filled with cumulus clouds full of sunlight and opalescent coloring. There is a freshness and crispness in this representation—and moisture in the air. As in the moonlight picture, we feel the very spirit of the scene and of the hour. Mr. Carlsen’s picture, “The Surf,” which will be remembered from last year’s exhibition, recently was awarded the Third Carnegie Medal and a $500 cash prize at the exhibition of the Carnegie Institute this year.”…
