‘Mr. Carnegie, though unable to be present at the exercises, sent the following letter to President W. N. Frew, of the board of trustees:
Medal of the first glass (gold), carrying with it an award of $1,500, to Thomas W. Dewing of New York City, for his painting entitled The Necklace.
Medal of the second class (silver), carrying with it an award of $1,000, to Henri Le Sidaner of Paris, for his painting entitled Grand Canal; Moonlight.
Medal of the third class (bronze), carrying with it an award of $500, to Emil Carlsen of New York City, for his painting entitled Surf.’
