“ART STUDENTS’ CLUB.—377 Main St., room 6.—Organized Mch. 24, 188o.—Officers: Pres., Geo. E. Gladwin, 16 Harvard St.; V. P., R. Suverkrop, 352 Main St.; Sec., Anna C. Freeland, 13 Pearl St.; Treas., F. C. Higgins, 284 Main St.—Objects: To advance the knowledge of art through the exhibition of works of art, the acquisition of books and papers upon art subjects, and the promotion of social intercourse among its members.—Members: Active, limited to 30 (dues $5 p.a.), who must be earnest students of some branch of art; honorary.—Occasional papers are read by members, Meetings for class work, four evenings a week in winter. The Club aims eventually to establish a school of fine arts. For the present there are classes in wood engraving, R. Suverkrop, teacher; life (draped model) and still life, S. Emil Carlsen, teacher ; and brass hammering (supervised by members).—The Club holds a yearly exhibition of the work of its members, only five or six of whom are professional artists. The catalogue of the exhibition for 1883, illustrated, enumerated 155 works, by the full force of members.”
