This amazing man, who at seventy looks like fifty is an indefatigable worker. Contrary to the layman’s belief in inspiration no art is born without labor. The finer the art, the more painstaking the labor, yet leaving in its finished product no trace of this. That is Carlsen. Painting and teaching, teaching and painting, scores of years of this, and yet Carlsen has not grown tired, has not grown weary and old.”…
