Loan Collection In Art Booth At W. T. Fair
Represents Outstanding Artist Of America
Canvasses of rare beauty from noted artists of America are included in an interesting, loan collection arranged yesterday in the art booth on the first floor of the fine arts building at the West Texas fair, under the supervision of Mrs. Geo. R. Harris, director of the entire department. Paintings, tapestries, china and other art objects are included in the exhibit, which will attract the immediate attention of the visit or to the building.
The loan collection, personally chosen by Mrs. Harris from the infamous studios of outstanding artists of Taos and Santa Fe, represents the work of artists whose names are known throughout the art world.
FROM FAMOUS STUDIOS
The great Irving Cause, A. N. A. J., H. Sharp, W. M. Herbert Dunton, Oscar E. Birmingham, A. N. A., E. Martin Henning and Victor Higgins, A. N. A. have canvasses in the collection. Gerald Cassidu, who has painted in many lands, Sheldon Parsons and Carlos Vierra, whose studios in Santa Fe attract art-interested travelers of the world, are represented by pictures of great beauty and charm. E. G. Esenlorh, Ella K. Mewhinney and Adele Loure Brunet of Dallas, Dawson-Dawson Watson and H. Anthony DeYoung of San Antonio, and other outstanding artists of Texas are other artists whose paintings promise hours of pleasure for the fair visitor.
A loan collection from Robert Gallery of San Antonio, includes the work of Julian Onderdonk, Emil Carlsen, N. A, John F. Carlson, N. A., Alden Weir, Edward W. Redfield Helen W. Ranger and Lillian Gen-the.
YOUNG ARTISTS KNOWN HERE
A group of younger Texas men represented Include two artists well known here–Kelly Stevens of Mexin, brother of Horace B. Stevens, Abelenian, and Harold D. Bugbee, who had an exhibit of paintings on the mezzanine floor of the Wooten for the opening weeks of the hotel. Entries include the work of young artists of Austin, Brownwood. Amarillo, Cleburne, Dallas, Abilene, and a score of other Texas points.
Awards sections, in which there are nine classes of paintings by professional, and twenty-four classes for amateurs, are also of unusual interest. Judging will take place Monday and Tuesday. Mrs. Harris will be assisted in receiving visitors to the department by Mrs. C. S. Bass, secretary of the art committee, Mrs. L. G. Pattillo, Mrs. A. E. Pool, Mrs. Harvey L. Hays and Mrs. Harris.
CHILDREN’S DIVISION
The collection has been assembled with great care by Mrs. Harris and her assistants, whose aim has been to present such a department that impetus will be given to art appreciation throughout West Texas, she said Saturday as she stood and view- the exhibit.
Mrs. Howard L. Schug is chairman of the division of art where the work of boys and girls under sixteen years of age is on display. In addition to an interesting exhibit of drawings, water color and oll paint- Ings, modeling and wood carving, there is a special department for manual art displays, Miss Corinne Cotton and Mrs. Robert Cray are assistants in the division.
The ingenuity and skill of the young boys and girls of this section of the state is shown in a great array of automobiles, airplanes, boats, wooden toys, oil cloth, hand-painted and crepe paper pillows, stuffed dolls, stuffed animal toys, bird houses, doll houses, furniture, colorful, vases, plaques and beads.
