“In Gallery V are shown two more of Emil Carlsen’s strong, and masterful works-“Grey of the Storm” and “Boats Going to Sea.” These were lent through the courtesy of the Bauer-Folsom galleries-Mr. Carlsen’s paintings have been exhibited at the Albright Art Gallery a number of times before, but each year he shows a remarkable improvement. It is interesting to note that one of Mr. Carlsen’s works recently took a prize at Carnegie Institute, Pittsburg. He is a painter with a great future.”

– This painting is most likely created from sketches Carlsen did in December 1908 and January 1909 while traveling back to Skagen, Denmark.
